Would you kite buggy across the Sahara and achieve a world record?
Would you attempt to be the first person to ever kite surf across the Torres Strait?
My friend Geoff Wilson did.
And if that weren't enough excitement for you....
Would you attempt to cross the Antarctic SOLO by sled......
Well My friend Geoff Wilson is!
Today I am highlighting how grateful I am for those moments in life where you have the opportunity to meet and befriend people who are exceptional. I have many of these people in my life. Truly amazing, inspiration people. Today I want to introduce you to Geoff, a very special man.....
Geoff is a father of 3, a devoted husband to his beautiful Sarah and a man who simply cant sit still. Geoff has conquered some amazing adventures in recent years and raised large amounts of money for fantastic causes as a result but it is his next grand plan that frankly frightens me, for good reason but I know this man well, and I trust that he will be OK.
You see, Geoff is planning a gruelling adventure named 'The Pink Polar Expedition'. This challenge he has set will see him cross Antarctica, one of the toughest environments on the planet, in honour of his friend, Journalist and two-time Breast Cancer survivor Kate Carlyle. This expedition is set to take place in November 2013 and will see Geoff attempt this crossing solo and unassisted by ski and kite power while hauling a 'Boob Sled' of supplies. Yep, that's right..... Boob! (Geoff's wife, who has a fabulous sense of humour, has graciously agreed to be the model for said sled)
To you and me, this challenge would not even cross our minds, but to Geoff it is just something he has to do. And I trust he will do it too. He has that ability to impress you time and time again with his attitude and determination. And if I know Geoff.... none of this will be about him. Its will be for his friend, and all others who have battled Breast Cancer. It will be attempted to the best of his ability in the hope that he can help raise awareness of Breast Cancer and raise funds for the McGrath Foundation. Geoff believes that its the 'inner man or woman that allows us to leave the safety of our comfort zone to embark on adventures and survive.' To put that into context of a Breast Cancer patient, he is certain 'it is the inner-adventurer that gives every sufferer the ability to fight and live every day since the diagnosis and throughout taxing treatment regimes - with the optimism that they can survive.'
The world needs people like my friend. Special people who put their lives on hold and risk their safety for important causes. These people don't come by often, but when they do, we need to applaud them for their efforts and abilities to visualise their dreams...... and make them happen!
For now, Geoff is in serious training mode! He has a long hard journey ahead of him before he can begin on this next expedition. This is a challenge that holds real danger and one that he takes very seriously.
To encourage Geoff as he embarks on this inspiring, unique, once in a lifetime event, get behind the cause and show your support by donating or sponsoring him here. For regular updates on his progress, you can follow his adventure company '5th Element Expeditions' on Facebook or Twitter. Photos updated regularly on Instagram too... follow @pinkpolarexpedition.
Go on....... be inspired!

i wish a "charity" would pay for my holidays. that looks like great fun
ReplyDeleteWowsers anonymous..... seriously? I for one would NOT enjoy crossing the Antarctic solo and unassisted but whatever floats your boat I guess....... If it werent for people like this, "charities" might not make as much money as they do.... Next time, tell me your name. I dont like addressing people as anonymous.
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous
ReplyDeletePlease note that 100% of all donations go to the McGrath Foundation.
Geoff supports himself and pays his own way!
At its heart, the PINK POLAR Expedition supports the McGrath Foundation’s objectives to increase breast awareness in young women and raise money to place breast care nurses in communities across Australia.
100% of all donations will be donated to the McGrath Foundation and you will automatically receive a tax-deductible receipt via email.
As they say at the McGrath Foundation, together, we can make a difference!
Thats fabulous!!! Look forward to following Geoff's journey!!!

What a lovely piece Leigh! Thank you for your support of what will be an incredible experience.
ReplyDeleteOne little Aussie battler is about to undertake a mammoth challenge, for 'the greater good'.
Planning for The Pink Polar Expedition is really picking up speed and we're so excited to share it with everyone. As many people know, early detection saves lives. It has mine, twice now. We're raising money for the McGrath Foundation, so it can continue its work encouraging us all to be 'breast aware'. You've gotta love that Geoff's prepared to put his body on the line (with big, bright pink boobs in tow!) to help.
Thanks again;-)
